Mahameru Peak, heaven above the clouds.

Mahameru peak is the highest peak of Mount Semeru. This mountain is the highest on the island of Java with a height reaching 3676 meters above sea level. Administratively, Mount Semeru is located in two districts, namely Malang Regency and Lumajang Regency, East Java Province. Mahameru peak is the peak of the most sought after by climbers, because of its beauty that is no doubt. To get to the top of Mahameru, climbers can pass through two hiking trails. Namely through Ranu Pani and Senduro path. But most climbers, usually choose the Ranu Pani route as a hiking trail, because of its easy access to the Ranu Pani village. Ranu Pani itself is a village located at an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level. This is the last village we can meet before entering the hiking trail.

Before heading to Ranu Pani, we can ride a vehicle from the Tumpang Market. During the trip from Tumpang Market to the village of Ranu Pani, we will be treated to a view of the apple garden that lies on the right and left side. Not only that, we will also see a wide variety of farms and Teletubies hill rows that make absurdly fresh eyes. Arriving at Ranu Pani, we will be asked to take care of climbing permit letters. Ranu Pani is a beautiful little village at the foot of Mount Semeru, with its attractive volcanic lake. The green hill that stretches and the hospitality of the Tengger Tribe, the original inhabitants of the village, also add to the beauty and calm of this place. Ranu Pani is the starting point for climbing Mount Semeru. After passing Ranu Pani, the next destination is Ranu Kumbolo. During the journey to Ranu Kumbolo, we will pass 4 posts. Road conditions between posts 1-3 are still relatively gentle. Accompanied by large dense trees on the right and left, and the singing of birds that pass over the tree makes the trip more memorable. The condition of the hiking trail between posts 3-4 began to climb steeply. In this path we can begin to feel like in the clouds.

Ranu Kumbolo is at an altitude of 2400 meters above sea level. In this place, there is a mountain lake surrounded by green hills. Climbers call this place paradise in the middle of the highest mountain in the land of Java. Here, climbers are usually used to spend the night and take water. At night, we can see the starry sky that is solemn. In the morning, we can watch the sun rise that appears between the two green hills. Whereas in the afternoon, the fog will go down and make cool air in Ranu Kumbolo.
There is also a legendary hill of love here. Where there is a myth that says, if we climb the hill while imagining our loved ones, then we will live happily with those we love. In Ranu Kumbolo there is also a memorial to death to commemorate the climbers who died in the arms of Semeru.

After passing Ranu Kumbolo, the next hiking trail destination is Kalimati. Kalimati is located at an altitude of 2700 meters above sea level, and is famous for its clear springs for climbers. This place is still inhabited by some wild animals, so we must remain cautious. We will be presented with a stretch of Edelweis plants, grasslands that cover 100 hectares, and exotic mountain pine forests and ferns before reaching Kalimati. The next destination after Kalimati is Arcopodo. Arcopodo is the last post before reaching the top. Usually, the climbers will spend the night here to rest the body first before continuing to the summit. Arcopodo is the starting point for starting the toughest terrain that is quite difficult for climbers. Steep terrain and rock sand that easily collapsed, making climbers must be extra careful in setting foot. We are required to remain vigilant and put our ears up, if there are screamers from the top who give the code when a stone collapses. However, all of that will be paid out when we make it to Mahameru Peak. Semeru gave a commensurate gift for a sufficiently draining effort. The peak of Mahameru is the country above the clouds. The warmth of the sun with the beautiful blend of Jonggring Saloko crater that emits volcanic smoke, and the expanse of beautiful white clouds, makes any climber will be proud to have made the climb on the highest ground on the island of Java.
